BMCoCo-Pi 0.1.0rc3 · Linux console and model downloads; Windows planned.
First boot
Use this guide with a properly prepared, verified card. The downloadable SD setup utility is the Linux guided console; source archives are not bootable cards.
- With the Pi powered off, insert the prepared card. Attach HDMI, the correct power supply, and a wired USB keyboard if the model has no built-in keyboard.
- Connect Ethernet to a router with DHCP if you want browser control. Internet access is not needed for local BASIC. Current builds do not provide Wi-Fi.
- Power on and allow the display to synchronize. The ordinary baseline is a CoCo2 guest; an explicitly saved startup profile may select something else. Fresh candidate setup selects CoCo2 NTSC composite with artifact colors. Maintenance preserves your startup choice. An OK prompt is the guest's BASIC prompt, not a Linux command line.
- Try this on a CoCo BASIC guest:
text
PRINT 23*19
The result should be 437. For a small program, try the
original starter example. It does not need a disk.
5. Press F12 to pause the guest and open the OSD. Use Up/Down and Enter;
Escape/Backspace goes back. F12 closes/resumes when appropriate. If the
display has blanked from an enabled idle timeout, the first key wakes it;
release it and press F12 again for normal operation.
Open the Pi's Web UI
Normal automatic-network builds start wired Ethernet after the first guest display plus five seconds, then DHCP takes additional time. Networking must not hold up the first guest display. Wait rather than immediately enabling a second network start. Older recovery builds may require OSD Enable network.
Find the assigned IPv4 address in the Pi's OSD network/status information or
the router's DHCP client list. A host name is not guaranteed to resolve.
On a computer on the same trusted LAN, open http://<Pi-IP>/, substituting
the actual address. Use the address shown for your own Pi, not an address copied from another setup.
The page comes from the Pi itself. You do not need a PC web server, proxy, Internet connection or the future distribution website to operate it. The current service has no authentication: do not expose it outside a trusted LAN. Use one controlling client/transfer at a time and leave local OSD before browser operations that require SD access or guest changes.
Check System for the running source/build date and board family. A newly uploaded kernel is not running until it has been applied successfully and the Pi has rebooted. See updates and recovery.
